Nebraska Youth Range Camp

Nebraska Youth Range Camp

Nebraska Youth Range Camp was held June 5-8 in Curtis, Nebraska, at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. Leyton High School students Riley Benish (above left), an incoming freshman and brother Jaxson Benish (above right), an upcoming senior, attended the camp this year. Attendees were given the opportunity to learn about the vast study of rangeland management from some of Nebraska’s top specialists and producers. Topics included plant identification, grazing systems, fire ecology, ranch management, cedar encroachment, prairie habitat heterogeneity and more. Range Camp isn’t all work and no play; students were also able to compete in water games to stay cool and a mini rodeo to earn points for their crew. This was the brother’s first year attending camp. Both were awarded certificates of completion from the camp. Riley was named the overall most improved in his rangeland management skills throughout the entire week.
