Bulldogs celebrate Homecoming with third straight win

The Bridgeport football team capped off Homecoming week in style with a 70-24 victory over visiting Hemingford last Friday night. Scoring was fast and furious for the Bulldogs, who totaled a whopping 10 touchdowns in the game. Senior running back Peyton Abbott led the charge by tying a school record with seven touchdowns of his own. He rushed for six scores and caught another. Abbott ended the game rushing for a career-high 233 yards on just seven carries.

After holding Hemingford on downs on the game’s opening possession, Bridgeport needed just two plays to get on the scoreboard. Abbott broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run to set off a scoring streak of 42 straight points. He also added touchdown runs of 54 and 29 during the spree. Abbott tacked on a 63-yard touchdown run later in the first half to give Bridgeport a 48-8 lead at intermission.

Sophomore signal caller Nik Weibert was part of three touchdowns for Bridgeport in the opening half. He tossed a 39-yard score to Gage Nein and completed a 52-yard touchdown strike to Kolby Lussetto. Weibert also recovered a fumble and returned it for a defensive score.
