There’s a new business in town, and it’s not on Main Street in Bridgeport.Tacking Up Custom Creations is the idea conceived by Shane and Shelly Varner and brought to life in what was once the bustling little town of Antelope Hill. When the CB&Q Railroad set up the Denver- Alliance branch in 1900, the town’s name was changed to Angora, and it was filled with businesses, farms, and families for over a hundred years. The tiny spot on the map was the perfect place for Shane and Shelly to settle and build their life together.
Shane, born and raised in the northern sandhills of Nebraska, and Shelly, a Denver native, met six and a half years ago and moved to Angora after six months. She is an alumnus of Western Nebraska Community College with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. Both Shane and Shelly are US Army veterans.
While Angora is an unincorporated community today, the spot in the road fifteen miles north of Bridgeport is still home to about a hundred residents, a post office, and a community building. The two-story schoolhouse, just beyond the post office past the curve, is now the home of Tacking Up Custom Creations, a tack shop for horse owners, a gift shop for locals and those passing by, and a breakfast stop for the hungry.
