Nearly a week after the community dinner theater, Bridgeport’s production of “A Girl Called Opal” took center stage. The one act, written by Robert Lindsay-Nassif, and directed by Kristen Kraupie and Costa Lapaseotes, is the story of a girl who was the lone survivor of a shipwreck that killed her family. The French girl is renamed Opal (Emilie Miller) upon her placement as a ward by a man (Ricky Vargas) in a harsh widow woman’s (Katie Eckhardt) home, deep in the woods of a milling town. Opal is treated badly and is forced into endless chores to earn her keep. Feeling utterly alone, Opal befriends a hog, who ultimately becomes breakfast and brings in enough income for the two to live on.

An array of townsfolk make up the city center, including a store owner (Lars Strawn), a school teacher, (Delaney Pohl), two gossipy sisters, (Gabby Flores and Anahi Sosa Barron), and a wise old woman, Sadie (Cassandra Hopwood), who gives advice to Opal and helps her stay strong.
