Grace (Kraay) Simmons is Bridgeport’s new volleyball coach. Simmons played volleyball for the University of Rochester in New York from 2001-2005. She was the team’s libero and defensive specialist, and currently holds the second highest record for digs per set and third highest digs per season in the university’s history. Prior to that, Simmons was the setter for the Bridgeport Bulldogs. After college, she found a passion for sand volleyball, where her team won Houston’sThird Coast co-ed volleyball league.
Simmons is currently the Senior Managing Director at Teach For America. She coleads the local chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a TeamMates mentor. Her husband, James, is the elementary principal at Bridgeport. Together, they have 4 children: Benjamin (11), Olivia, Pearl (8) and Otis (4). In her spare time, she likes to coach youth sports, travel, and spend time outdoors.
