After sweeping the championships of the South Platte Valley Association Tournament a couple weeks ago, the Bridgeport basketball teams are now aiming to repeat those top finishes at this week’s Western Trails Conference Tournament.

After sweeping the championships of the South Platte Valley Association Tournament a couple weeks ago, the Bridgeport basketball teams are now aiming to repeat those top finishes at this week’s Western Trails Conference Tournament.

Both Bridgeport squads are the top seeds for the 35th edition of the event, which kicks off with first-round games today.The Lady Bulldogs, who’ve won the title three straight years, earned a bye into the semifinals. They will face either fourth-seeded Morrill or fifth-seeded Mitchell on Friday at 2 p.m. at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff. Second-seeded Bayard will host seventh-seeded Kimball and third-seeded Gordon-Rushvillle will host sixth-seeded Hemingford in the other opening-round games.

Those winners will play in Friday’s other semifinal. The semifinal winners will face off for the title on Saturday at 5 p.m.
