Impressively leading from start to finish, the Bridgeport girls basketball team knocked off No. 1 Sidney 40-33 to capture the championship of the Class C-1, Sub-district 12 tournament last Thursday on the Red Raiders’ home court.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back in claiming their fifth straight sub-district title.They will now play Gordon-Rushville in the C1-4 district final for the right to move on to the state tournament in Lincoln. Bridgeport will host Gordon-Rushville on Friday at 6 p.m.
Heading into last week’s sub-district final, both Bridgeport and Sidney sported undefeated marks of 23-0.The Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 24-0, are now one of only two teams in the state left with a perfect record. Crofton is also 24-0 in Class C-2.
