The Bridgeport boys basketball team gave top-seeded Amherst everything it could handle before falling 55-47 in the quarterfinals of the Class C-2 state tournament last Wednesday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
Amherst, which finished runner- up at state last year, went on to win the championship by beating Lincoln Lutheran in the final.
Bridgeport head coach Sean Sterkel said the Bulldogs were faced with an experienced and talented opponent in the Broncos in the first round.
