Leyton Warrior boys took the championship spot following their win over Perkins County on Friday during the Perkins County Holiday Tournament in Grant this past weekend. Both Leyton teams played Perkins for the championship after beating out Wallace and South Platte. The girls finished in second place for runner up.
In the final game over the Plainsmen, the Warriors kept up their winning streak and nailed the home team to the wall with a final score of 46-37. They remain undefeated with a 7-0 record going into Saturday’s game at Hay Springs.
The girls’ final game was a nail biter for both sets of fans before the Plainsmen came out on top, 54-51. Shawnee Gamble scored 15 points, including three treys, Zaili Beinsh dropped in baskets for 12 points, two of which were 3-pointers, and Sydney Fortune, nine points. Against Wallace, Benish sat out during the first half with an injury and came in the second half to score 19 points, including a trio of threes. Gamble scored 11 and Trinity Beutler, ten.
