CSC hosts annual Rising Sophomore ceremony

CHADRON—Chadron State College students and employees gathered for the ninth annual Rising Sophomore awards ceremony Wednesday. Dr. Jim Powell,Vice President for Academic Affairs at Chadron State College, was the keynote speaker. He came to CSC in 2015 as the Dean for Assessment, Accreditation, Curriculum, and Education, Human Performance, Counseling, Psychology, and SocialWork. Powell, who became theVice President for Academic Affairs in 2020, is retiring at the end of June.

The following awards were established by the Retention Committee to recognize students who went above and beyond in a variety of categories during their freshman year. Students were either nominated by peers, faculty, or staff.

Cort Rummel of Gurley, Elementary Education Chadron State College,which was founded in 1911, is the only four-year, regionally-accredited college in the western half of Nebraska.As a public institution with its roots in teacher education, Chadron State takes pride in its accessibility and affordability. More than 2,000 undergraduate, graduate and online students currently attend Chadron State.
