Bridgeport and Bayard High School students spent Friday in Bridgeport at the Morrill County Courthouse for County Government Day. For the past several years, the two schools have come together to learn about the different branches of government, and the several offices and services that make up county government and court systems.

The special day is made up of several volunteers, as well as elected officials and teachers from each school district. Students are put into small groups and taken to each of the offices where officials speak to students about what goes on in their office. Students are also given the opportunity to register to vote.

Students visited the extension office, assessor’s office, treasurer’s office, clerk’s office, road department and commissioners’ room, as well as the veterans service office, sheriff’s office, and district court room. The road department brought in a large payloader for students to climb in and see how large equipment works.
