Doris was born on February 1, 1922, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Warren and Nell (Warriner) Given, grew up on her family’s ranch near Kaycee, Wyoming, graduated from Sheridan High School and attended the University of Wyoming. She worked in Sheridan and Casper as an office assistant for a bank, at the US Army Air Corp Base during World War II (located at Bar Nunn north of Casper), and in the oil and gas business.

She married Richard W. Barry in 1949, had two daughters, Evelyn and Susan, and chose to stay home and raise her daughters while volunteering at schools, churches, serving as president of the Casper Symphony Guild, and delivered for Casper’s Meals on Wheels with Richard following his retirement. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling, various church activities, and her family and friends.
