After lengthy discussion with the public during the regular council meetingThursday night last week, a proposed revision to Bridgeport’s handling of unlicensed cats was introduced on first reading. The existing ordinance addresses both dogs and cats running at large; the proposed revision would address cats separately and differently, depending on whether or not the owner can be identified. The ordinance, however, does not address an issue brought previously to the council regarding legally licensed or collared cats being baited and trapped on private property.
The consent agenda was approved, including the resignation of JesseWeibert and Blaize Simones from the BridgeportVolunteer Fire Department, the approval of Nathaniel Rahmig and Alicia Pittman from probationary to active status on the fire department, the approval of the mayor’s appointment of Andy Leisy and Scott Fesmire to the Park Board, and the approval of the mayor’s appointment of Leisy and Dori Huck to theTree Board.
An ordinance regarding the Bridgeport Tree Board was amended to remove the Street Superintendent as a required position on the board, replaced it with any employee of the City of Bridgeport, and allowed an alternate meeting time as determined by the board. Also, an ordinance to alter the city’s emergency snow route was adopted to include 9th Street from Main Street to S Street.
