Bridgeport’s Dean qualifies for state in shot put, discus

For the second straight year, Bridgeport High School’s Grace Dean qualified for the Nebraska state track and field meet in Omaha.

Dean, a recent Bulldog graduate, will compete Friday and Saturday in both the shot put and discus events following high finishes at last week’s C-9 district meet in Bayard. She earned a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 37 feet, 6 1/2 inches and placed third in the discus with a distance of 121-11.

Dean will be Bridgeport’s lone torch carrier at state as she’s the only Bulldog who qualified from a difficult district that was dominated by a talented Chase County squad of athletes.
