It proved to be an impressive finish to the track and field season for Bridgeport and Leyton athletes competing at the Nebraska state meets in Omaha last weekend. The small, but mighty, contingent from the Panhandle managed to bring home medals in five different events.

Recent Bridgeport High School graduate Grace Dean accounted for two of those as she medaled in both of her events to close out her Bulldog career in style. Dean earned a third-place finish in the discus with a personal-best mark of 130 feet, 10 inches. She then turned around and collected a fifth-place medal in the shot put with another personal-best distance of 39-8 3/4.

“Grace was a true competitor all weekend,” Bridgeport head coach Jackie Rahmig said. “In the discus I believe all but one of her throws was a PR. In the shot put her third throw was a PR and that is the one that got her into finals and placed her.”
