Council advances ordinance on first reading that would make property owners responsible for unpaid delinquent charges for water or electric service

Property owners would be responsible for the payment of unpaid delinquent charges for water or electricity on a property before services would be restored under an ordinance considered at the city council meeting on Monday. There were several rental property owners present to express their concerns. Some on the council suggested that property owners could minimize their liability by collecting additional deposits to cover potential unpaid city bills. Council members unanimously voted to advance the proposed ordinance to second reading.

The council held a hearing to take comments related to an application by SGBPT Investments LLC dba The Steel Grill 64 Steakhouse & Bar for a Class CK Liquor & Catering License. There were no comments received and following the hearing, the council approved the application.

The council also approved a resolution to close Highway 385 for the Homecoming Parade on September 12, and a request to close the street east of Prairie Winds Community Center on the evening of August 16 to set up for the Greek Festival to be held on August 17.
