In response to the letter to the editor, I would like to go through a few items concerning the acquisition of Waste Connections. I would also like to add that every one of these facts was presented at the public hearing to discuss this purchase where community members were allowed to ask questions and voice their opinions. The council and myself listened to the persons in attendance and their concerns. Since a public hearing was held for real estate purchase as we are obligated this did not require an ordinance in which, yes, 3 readings would have been read.
This was not necessary for a real estate purchase. It is also important to note that this acquisition had been in discussion for many months and every consideration for what is best for the community as a whole, being first and foremost.
Nobody from the city government of Bridgeport has told anyone they have to move out of this building. We will work with existing businesses to find a compromise that works to help both parties.
