Fall sports season to begin for Bridgeport, Leyton athletes

The fall sports season will start with a flurry for Bridgeport and Leyton High School athletes this week. Action will begin in earnest today as three Bridgeport squads will open their campaigns, including two with new head coaches.

The Grace Simmons era gets underway for Bulldog volleyball as Bridgeport will host rival Bayard. Simmons, the daughter of legendary Bulldog football coach Glenn Kraay, inherits a team that finished 16-13 last year.

Four starters from that roster return in senior setter Aubrey Watts, senior libero Kelsie McVicker, junior hitter Jailyn Nichols, and junior hitter Fallon DeBlois.Watts set the school record for most set assists in a career last year as just a junior.
