For the second straight year, the Bridgeport girls golf team claimed the Western Trails Conference Tournament championship last Tuesday at Kimball’s Four Winds Golf Course.The Bulldogs fired a season-best score of 468 to finish ahead of second-place finisher Bayard by a whopping 62 strokes.
“It’s always nice to win the conference. I was happy for the girls,” Bridgeport coach Todd Janicek said. “We started with three brand-new golfers this year and they’re improving every day. All of the girls are practicing hard and taking what they learn into the tournaments. I’m proud of them.”
Four Bulldogs finished in the top-10 individually to earn all-conference honors. Mara Soto led the way with a fourthplace finish. She shot a score of 105. Katie Eckhardt followed right behind in fifth place with a score of 107. Olivia Joles finished with a 127 to earn an eighth-place finish. Olivia Brown medaled right behind in ninth with a 129 total. Emma Dohse just missed out on a top-10 medal with a 131. She lost a scorecard playoff for the medal with Kimball’s Mallory Hottell.
