Village of Broadwater recipient of free trees for fall Re-Tree Grant

Thanks to the Ten Free Trees program, an effort of the Nebraska Forest Service and the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, the Village of Broadwater has received 10 trees for the “Village of Broadwater Tree Planting Project.”

The Village of Broadwater Board of trustees recognized the need for park trees, specifically shade trees at the main park playground area, and street trees at the Village hall and Library grounds.Working with the North Platte NRD forestry staff, several designs were created that will be used in an effort to fulfill the needs of this project. This will become an ongoing community forestry project.

Despite providing a wide range of social, economic, and environmental benefits, most Nebraska community forests have been in steady and sometimes dramatic decline. Many challenges contribute, including extreme weather, insects, disease, and lack of diversity.
