The Morrill County Commissioners held hearings for the 2024-2025 property tax request and the county’s 2024-2025 budget.There were no comments regarding the tax request. The budget increased by $110,711 and the mil levy decreased to 0.302461.The County Assessor stated that she believed her budget was being unfairly compared to the budget of other elected officials.The commissioners told her that they adjusted her budget to account for the taxpayer money she spent taking the Board of Equalization decisions to the Tax Equalization and Review Commission (TERC). The commissioners met as the Board of Equalization and approved tax list corrections.
In other business, the board approved several resolutions for foreclosures on real estate, striking delinquent taxes, and removing property from county tax sales.The claims were approved, except for the mileage submitted by the county assessor to attend the TERC hearings.
Sheriff Cardenas gave an update on the jail repair estimate and purchase of radios. He is waiting on one more bid for the plumbing, then he will bring the quotes and his recommendation to the board at the October 8 meeting.The sheriff stated that he has received a commitment for $60,000 from the City of Bridgeport toward the $180,000 needed for the radios. He has submitted grant applications to the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association and Platte Valley Bank for a total of about $50,000. He plans to have funding lined up by December.
