The Leyton volleyball team’s historic season ended with a runner-up finish at the Class D-2 state tournament on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.

Leyton, which advanced to the championship match for the first time, lost a 25-18, 26-24, 25-16 decision to Shelton. The Warriors’ impressive season concluded with a final record of 35-1, which was the best mark in school history.

In the title match, Shawnee Gamble paced the Warriors with 11 kills. Shelton’s defense made things difficult on the Leyton hitters as the Warriors finished with just a .109 overall hitting percentage and made 16 attack errors.
