The Bridgeport girls and boys basketball teams enjoyed success on the road during the season-opening weekend. After both squads earned wins on Friday against Perkins County in Grant, the Bulldogs split contests on Saturday at North Platte St. Patrick’s.
The Bridgeport girls, ranked No. 10 in Class C-1 by the OmahaWorld-Herald, managed to start 2-0. In the season opener, the Lady Bulldogs beat Perkins County 61-44 behind Tacey From’s 23 points. Bridgeport was never threatened after moving out to a 23-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Jailyn Nichols also scored in double figures as she finished with 13 points. Elizabeth Velazquez added eight points, while Ella Schluterbusch and Olivia Brown had seven each.
The Lady Bulldogs kept rolling against the Irish on Saturday. After jumping out to a 9-0 lead, Bridgeport dominated St. Pat’s in recording a 57-22 victory. Leading 35-8 at halftime, the Lady Bulldogs limited the Irish to just two points in the third quarter en route to building a commanding 50-10 advantage to force a running clock the rest of the way. From went over the 20-point scoring mark for the second straight day by finishing with 21 points. She scored 11 of those in the first period. Brown was deadly from deep as she knocked down four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points. Schluterbusch also scored in double figures with 11 points.
