Competing in the Chadron Holiday Classic for the first time, the Bridgeport girls basketball team captured the championship of the event held last week at Chadron State College.
After downing Valentine 63-27 in the semifinals, the Lady Bulldogs held off Ogallala 61-58 in the championship game to claim the title.The wins improved Bridgeport to 8-0 on the season and extended the club’s regular-season winning streak to 63.
The streak was certainly put in jeopardy in the final against Ogallala before the Lady Bulldogs held strong down the stretch to prevail. Olivia Corman’s key 3-point play and a pair of free throws by Ella Schluterbusch in the closing minute helped preserve the victory.
