For the second time this season, the Bridgeport High School boys basketball team completed back-to-back title runs as conference tournament champions.
After repeating as South Platte Valley Association Tournament champs less than a month ago, the Bulldogs doubled up as tourney winners of the Western Trails Conference on Saturday at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff. Bridgeport knocked off top-seeded Kimball 52-43 in the title game to improve to 14-7 on the season. The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 66-27 victory over Bayard in the first round before rolling to a 67-37 win over Morrill in the semifinals.
It’s the 10th WTC tourney championship for Bridgeport since the first one was played in 1990. That’s a fast-charging second to Kimball, which leads the way with 13 overall.
