Budget billing program for utilities proposed
The Bridgeport City Council considered and approved a proposal offered by Fresh Express for a vending machine service in the community center. The customer will simply tap their payment card to open the Smart Fridge. Once they decide which items they want, just grab and go.When the door closes, the technology knows what was taken and automatically charges the card. There is a similar service located at the hospital.
During the public comment period,Terri Green asked the mayor and council to consider a budget billing option for residents to use to pay their utility bills. The cities of Kimball, Morrill, Alliance and Sidney have budget billing options. This would allow predictable monthly payments and avoid large bills during peak use months. She also asked that all utilities be included in the program. The council will consider her request as they look at a potential increase in electricity rates for the May meeting.
