For a fifth straight year, the Bridgeport girls basketball team qualified for the state tournament following a thrilling 51-49 win over Battle Creek in the Class C-1, District 6 final on Friday at Bridgeport High School.
Leading by 20 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were forced to hold off a furious rally attempt by the Bravettes to improve their season record to 25-1.
Battle Creek scored the first nine points of the final frame to pull within 43-32 with just over five minutes to go. After Ella Schluterbusch’s bucket and free throw pushed Bridgeport’s lead back up to 14, the Bravettes ripped off a 10-0 run to close the gap to just 46-42 at the 3-minute mark.
