Playing in a district championship for a sixth year in a row, the Bridgeport boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a big and veteran-led Howells-Dodge opponent in the D1-6 final on Monday evening in Lexington. The Jaguars put their size and experience to good use in pulling away for a 56-34 win to secure a berth into next week’s state tournament in Lincoln.The Bulldogs concluded their season with a final record of 16-10.
Kolby Lussetto paced the Bulldogs in scoring with a gamehigh 18 points. He hit a pair of 3-pointers. Gage Nein also scored in double figures with 12 points. Bridgeport advanced to the district final after winning a sub-district championship last week for the sixth straight year.The Bulldogs knocked off top-seeded Leyton 67-62 in the sub-district final in overtime.
“Our kids just kept fighting for each other,” Bridgeport coach Sean Sterkel said after the win. “That was fun for them to know that they have that in them to keep fighting.”
