Speech team captures top spot at Best of the West and district meets

Bridgeport will send a dozen to state

Bridgeport qualified twelve members of their speech team for state when District C 1-6 competition was held at home on Tuesday this week. Schools assigned to the contest were Amherst, Chase County, Gordon- Rushville, Hershey, Mitchell, Sutherland, and Valentine. Each school is allowed two entries per event, with no more than two events per speaker.

Final results were, in Duet acting, Cassandra Hopwood and Hanna Berry, third. Entertainment, Drew Leisy, first and Berry, fifth. Extemporaneous, Hopwood first, and Logan Bartling, second. In informative, Tegan Rice, first and Jordan Wagner, second. In serious prose, Claire Linders took third, Kendal Deaver, fourth. Poetry, Mara Soto took fifth. Humorous prose, Leisy placed first. Program of Oral interpretation, Katie Eckhardt, second. Oral Interpretation of Drama teams both placed in the top three. Humorous OID team of Linders, Rice, and Eckhardt took first and Serious OID team of Deaver, Emilie Miller, Eden Strawn and Madison Ribble took third.The top three spots in each event will compete at state.
