County fair contract continues to be a sticking point

The ongoing issue of the county fairground lease from the Morrill County Rodeo, Farm and Ranch Association was revisited at the county commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday. Commissioner Jeff Metz stated he has been working closely with the fair board and the association to make this the best scenario for our youth. The three groups met Thursday night to talk about some changes that were suggested, and all were open and willing to make reasonable modifications.

Commissioner Jeff Metz stated he has been working closely with the fair board and the association to make this the best scenario for our youth. The three groups met Thursday night to talk about some changes that were suggested, and all were open and willing to make reasonable modifications.

Association members met again Monday night to approve the contract but did not do so as they had more changes to make. Metz and the fair board then met with association members Tuesday afternoon following the commissioners’ meeting regarding the proposed changes. Both Metz and fair board representatives voiced that they are acting in the best interest of the county’s youth and the goal is to have a county fair for all the people in the county to be proud of and enjoy.

Commissioner Josh Schmidt reported that the aging office met and have needed to increase their meal rate by $1.00. However, this does not cover the amount of actual spending on meals and the cost to deliver them. The panhandle serves approximately 4,000 meals to the elderly each week.
