Drew Leisy, senior, was the sole state speech participant from Bridgeport to make finals at Kearney last Thursday. He earned the class C1 State Championship for his Humorous Prose titled, “Spooky Dog and the Teen-Age Gang Mysteries,” by Eric Pliner and Amy Rhodes. The ten-minute skit featured nearly a dozen different characters, male, female, and canine, all played by Leisy in the award-winning performance. Of finally winning gold doing something he loves, Leisy said, “It didn’t feel real at first, but as time went on, it felt more real. I am so grateful for the opportunities that got me here.”
