From history-making success to record-setting achievements, it certainly proved to be a memorable season for the Bridgeport girls basketball team led by head coach Dave Kuhlen. The Lady Bulldogs tied the school record for most wins in a season by finishing 27-1, while setting a new school record with a 26-game winning streak.

For the first time in school history, the Lady Bulldogs qualified for the state tournament for a third straight year. Following a quarterfinal win over Lincoln Christian, Bridgeport dropped a heartbreaking setback to Adams Central in overtime in the semifinals. However, they put that loss behind them to earn a thirdplace finish by beating Malcolm in the consolation game.

“Even though we fell short in the end, it was still a successful season. It can be difficult to have that perspective in the moment, but we were able to represent our community and school,” senior Ruthie Loomis-Goltl said. “After the loss, we decided that the most important thing was the opportunity to be together and show each other the love that we have for each other. None of us were satisfied with bronze. It’s going to be something that bothers us for a long time, but I’m excited to see what next year’s team will accomplish.”
