The west was well represented in March during the 95th annual FFA Convention held in Lincoln. From Bridgeport, thirteen high school FFA chapter members and half a dozen junior high students attended with their advisor, Christy Schuler.
Bridgeport Superintendent Chuck Lambert was honored onstage on the last day of convention, Friday, March 31st, with one of the four Cornerstone Awards distributed this year, sponsored by Cornerstone Bank. According to Madison Doechot, of the Nebraska FFA Association, the award is given to school administrators who “offer support and invest time into their agricultural education programs and FFA Chapters.” The 2023 recipients of the Cornerstone Award were Lambert, Dawn Moser of Mead, Phillip Picquet of Perkins County and Cody Wallinger of McCool Junction.
Second year attendee and Bridgeport senior Mackenzie Liakos competed in the Farm and Agribusiness management competition and acted as a delegate from the Bridgeport Chapter for the delegate session. “The best part of the week was definitely getting to go to the sessions,” she said. “There were fantastic speakers, and it was awesome to see all the FFA members with their jackets on. I enjoyed going to the different booths at the expo and career fair and just hanging out with my friends. Whatever we were doing we made sure we had fun doing it.”
