Historic agreement seals purchase of fairgrounds by the county

Morrill County has reached a momentous agreement with the Morrill County Rodeo Farm and Ranch Association to purchase seven acres of the Morrill County Fairgrounds just west off of Highway 88 south of Bridgeport, including the animal show buildings and exhibition hall. A long time in the making, Morrill County was the last county in the state who held a fair, not jointly with another county, that didn’t own its own fairgrounds.

A long time in the making, Morrill County was the last county in the state who held a fair, not jointly with another county, that didn’t own its own fairgrounds.

One hundred years ago this month, the fair board, which was one year old at the time, voted to move the fair buildings from their previous location to the current location. For the first time since then, the county will own the property that the county fair will be held on.

The entire purchase price of $275,000 was covered using American Rescue Plan Act funds that were given to the county during the Covid pandemic. The resolution presented to the commissioners state that the county has considered, discussed, and approved the purchase agreement.The final closing on the property will be on or before May 1.
