New business coming to Angora

Hospital accepting bids for new building

Hospital accepting bids for new building

There will be a new café and country store opening in Angora in the old school building soon with Shelly Varner the proprietor. Varner went before the zoning committee recently to ask that the building remain residential to help her offset the cost of improvements. They denied this request and recommended the commissioners zone it commercial. If it remained residential, it could be open by the end of the month, but if made commercial, it would take her years to save the money needed to open it.

The commissioners voiced concern that, in order to remain residential, half of the floor plan must be a living area. No attorneys or zoning committee members were present, and chairman Jeff Metz wanted to table the discussion, but Varner said she needed to know this week for inspection purposes.Varner agreed to move into the building and make it her primary residence to ensure that the property could remain residential. A motion was made and seconded to make the property commercial, then all commissioners voted no, leaving the property residential.
