Herman Ernest Hall was born September 28, 1930, in Bridgeport, Nebraska. He died April 4, 2023, in Ontario, Oregon. Herman was the first of five children born to Herman and Inez (Mitchell) Hall. He grew up on the farm north of Bridgeport and attended West District 6 School. He attended Bridgeport High School, graduating in 1949.
Herman was inducted into the US Army in 1953. He received his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas before he was transported to Korea where he served as a forward observer/fire spotter and also in close combat. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Nebraska.
Herman tried many occupations in his early years before settling on diesel mechanics. He pursued that vocation for many years throughout many of the plains states from Montana to Arkansas.
