Money raised during the event will go to a charity or organization in Bridgeport of the mayor’s choice. In other business, city council also approved the mayor’s signature on the State Recreational Road Program Agreement.

Recreation Road was established in November of 1965 and the original agreement, signed in January of 1966 by the Morrill County Clerk, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, the State Engineer, the General Service Engineer and the Deputy State Engineer stated that, “Morrill County and the State are willing to construct such a road to the Bridgeport Recreation Area, and the County is willing to assume the responsibility for maintenance of the road when completed.” It further stated that, “The County will provide at their own expense, the rights of way for the proposed recreation road on State Route No. 26 near the C. B. & Q. Railroad Company and running parallel to the railroad 0.62 miles to the Bridgeport Lakes.”

While the State provided all the remaining costs for completing the grading, drainage structures and surfacing, the agreement went on to say that, “Upon completion of the road, the State will notify the County in writing that the work is completed, and the maintenance obligation is to be assumed by the County.”
