Ivan was born June 19, 1945, in Bridgeport, NE, to Fred and Opal (Middleton) Dobrinski. As a kid he lived in Dalton and Bridgeport. Ivan did not finish high school; he went straight into the workforce, working for Bridgeport’s Northport Irrigation District.
On November 21, 1964, Ivan married Joyce Schoolcraft.To this union were born Jennifer, Jackie and Richard.
Ivan started at the sugar factory, working during campaign, and later he began working year round until the factory in Bayard, NE, closed. He was also a jack of all trades, including electrical and several other jobs. Ivan was always willing to help anyone in need. He and Joyce took over the Broadwater Cafe when Ivan’s mother passed away. Later he helped with the Beerline canal.
Ivan was a farmer all of his life. He enjoyed teaching all of his grandkids everything he knew. He would take the grandkids out farming with him. Ivan loved his family, he loved to pester his grandkids and his great-grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Emil “Leroy” Dobrinski and Kenneth Dobrinski; sister Bonnie (“Sam”) Arends; son Richard Dobrinski; parents-in-law Jerry and Anna (Caywood) Schoolcraft; and brothers-in-law Jerry Schoolcraft, Mike Minich and Bob Wood.
He is survived by his wife Joyce (Schoolcraft) Dobrinski, daughters Jennifer Dobrinski and Jackie (Perry) Meyers, sister Donna (Raymond) Schwint, brothers-in-law John and Joe Schoolcraft, sisters-in-law Jill Wood, Pam Nims, Lynne Schoolcraft, Dorene Schoolcraft, and Leona Dobrinski. He is survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 (one on the way) great-grandchildren and, many cousins, nieces, nephews.
Services were held on May 28, 2024, at the Church of Christ, with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. The family requests lieu of flowers and donations to be made out to Joyce Dobrinski. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.bridgeportmemorialchapel. com.
