LaMond L. Lessman, 84

LaMond L. Lessman, 84, of rural Broadwater, Nebraska, passed away with his family by his side at Morrill County Community Hospital on Thursday, June, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley, NE, with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Burial will follow at the Dalton Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig- Stitt Chapel on Thursday, June 13, from 2-7:00 p.m. to leave condolences; family will be present from 5-7. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Salem Lutheran Church or the Tanner Stichka Memorial for Mental Health through the Morrill County Hospital Foundation.

Lamond L. Lessman, the son of Alvin and Erna Lessman, was born December 1, 1939, at Dalton, NE. He graduated from Dalton High School in 1957. After graduating he went to Telegrapher School in Pueblo, CO, where he got a job with the railroad after finishing school. He later decided to return home and work side-by-side with his dad farming and ranching. He also worked for the Bayard Sugar Beet Factory during campaigns for over 20 years, along with continuing to farm and ranch.

On April 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ellen Mae Wilson at Broadwater, NE.To this union one daughter was born,Tonya.

LaMond was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley, NE. He was a member of the True Country Dance Club, and he and his wife enjoyed taking part in many dances. He was a registered trap shooter with a high average of above 90% and received many awards over the years. Later in life he enjoyed fishing, goose hunting, and elk hunting in the mountains with his family and friends. He was a very successful farmer and enjoyed it tremendously for all of his life. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. For the last several years he was constantly with his canine companion, Buddy.

Survivors include his daughter Tonya (Rich) Stichka and granddaughter Randi Stichka, all of Bridgeport; his sister Chery Borges, of rural Dalton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Ellen, his grandson Tanner Stichka, his sister Nancy Wilson, and two brothers-in-law, Bill Borges and Don Wilson.
