Lynn was born in the family sod house near Northport, NE, on October 29, 1941, to Charles and Ina (Payne) Douglas. He attended school in Northport and Bridgeport, then enlisted into the U.S. Army in April 1959.
During his time in the service, he was stationed in Germany for 30 months then honorably discharged in April 1962.
Lynn returned to Nebraska and went to work for Missouri Valley Construction and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island.
In 1971, he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte and worked 30 years in the Car Department, until retiring in 2002. He made many lifelong friends during his time at the railroad. On April 22, 1967, Lynn was united in marriage to Rosemary Bykerk at St.
Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. They moved to Sutherland in 1971, where they raised their five children and were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Lynn was a volunteer on the Sutherland Fire Department for many years.
In his free time, he enjoyed many outdoor hobbies. He found true enjoyment camping with Rose, while stoking a good campfire. He loved to fish, especially for walleye out of the boat and walking the canal for rainbow trout.
Hunting turkey in the spring was another passion and spending time in the duck blind each fall with family and friends was extra special.
When not outdoors, Lynn spent time on countless woodworking projects for family and friends. His miniature horsedrawn wagons and clocks were his specialties. He especially looked forward to having coffee in his wood-working shed with all his buddies.
Lynn was a true Husker fan through and through, with his go-to line when they needed some inspiration, “Come on, Huskers!”
Spending time with family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids, was close to his heart. Lynn may best be remembered as being “a great person” as expressed by all his family and friends, young and old. He will be sorely missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Lynda (Gerald) Halcott, and sisters, Audrey (Scott) Copley, Shirley (Garland) Burnette, JoAnn (Ray) Hutchinson and Gloria Jean (Albert) McKnight; brother, John Sherlock Jr.; and sister in-law, Beverley Douglas.
Lynn leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Rosemary; children, Don and Dale (Rhonda) of Sidney, Darrell (Rebecca) of Seymour, TN, Melanie (Dustin) Stewart of Sutherland and Misty (Bernie) Mascarenaz of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren: Dylan, Colby (Grace), Brant (Haylie), Kegan (Aysha), Logan (Morgan), Makenna, Trey, Kirsten (Gabe), Alexandria, Katelynn (Rob), Allison (Jonathan), Emma and Faith; 9 great-grandkids: Jace, Leah, Baker, Briggs, Berkley, Marlee, Patrick, Bennett and Oaklynn; his brother, Glenn Douglas of Bridgeport; as well as several in-laws, nieces, nephews and other family.
