Leslie “Les” Dale Schluterbusch, 75

Leslie “Les” Dale Schluterbusch died at Overland Park Regional Medical Center on February 19, 2023, in Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 75. He was most recently a resident of Belton, Missouri, but spent much of his life in Bridgeport, Nebraska. In 1978, his first marriage was to Becky Bigelow, to whom were born two children. In 1991, he married Sheila (Kelley) Scott; they spent 31 years together.

Les was born on March 11, 1947 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Carl and Georgia Schluterbusch. Les graduated from Bridgeport High School. He joined the Navy in 1967 and served on both the USS Enterprise and the USS Constellation aircraft carriers as an air dale; he also worked on the planes’ ejection seats. He told the pilots, “If the seat doesn’t work, just bring it back,” and no one ever did! After his discharge, he attendedWestern NebraskaTechnical College in Sidney, where he studied drafting.

He drafted blueprints for the Idaho Falls (Idaho) Power company office building. Les later went to work at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for many years as a Signal Maintainer. He retired and visited many different places while accompanying Sheila during her travel nursing days. Les did volunteer work at theWhite City, Oregon,VA golf shop along with his two therapy dogs, Popcorn and Harley.

Les leaves behind his wife Sheila of Belton; daughter Stephani Rust of Chadron, NE; son Justin Schluterbusch, and stepsons Jeremiah Scott of Kansas City, MO, and James (Stacey) Scott of Centennial, CO…and many unfinished home improvement projects. He also leaves behind his siblings: Marilea Fish-McLaughlin of Lincoln, NE;Vern (Marge) Schluterbusch of Bridgeport; Larry (LaDonna) Schluterbusch of Sidney, NE; and Cheryl (Allen) Adams of Sidney, NE. Les is survived by his grandchildren Zander and Tobin Rust, Cheyenne Scott, Lily and Taylor Scott, and Makayla and Michael Castinado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Carol Jo Schluterbusch and Donna (Schluterbusch) Kaiser.

A memorial service will be planned for the western Nebraska area at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos of Les may be shared on the Legacy. com website under the name Les D. Schluterbusch.
