Terrence Rader, 74

Terrence Rader, son of Earl Vincent Rader, Jr., and Veronica (Brown) Rader, was born on September 8, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

 

He entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 18, 2024, at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa, following a brief illness at the age of 74 years.

His early life was spent growing up on the east coast in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and where he attended Carrick High School. Following high school, Terry enlisted in the United States Air Force, entering active duty on January 17, 1969, during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Sergeant and worked as a base security force patrolman at Ellsworth AFB.

He was honorably discharged on January 16, 1973, after four years of service.

On October 12, 1972, Terry was united in marriage to Deborah B. Byrnes in Rapid City, South Dakota. He and Deborah met at Ellsworth AFB and continued to live there until his service obligation was done.To this union four sons were born: Shawn, Michael, James and Matthew.

Following the service, he and Deborah settled in western Nebraska, where Terry worked various route sales jobs, delivering potato chips, bread, pop and janitorial supplies. He enjoyed serving all his customers and shooting the breeze. His last job before retirement was working for the Nebraska Department of Roads doing road maintenance. In the winter he drove a snowplow, often being called out at 2 a.m. to plow until the snow stopped.

In 1981,Terry came to know Jesus, and he and Deb were baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on the same day.

He attended various churches through the years, serving as deacon in two of them. Upon moving to Shenandoah, he and Deb attended Christ Point Baptist Church where he felt at home and loved his pastor and church family.

In his spare time,Terry enjoyed watching the Steelers, Pirates, Chiefs and Huskers play. His favorite pastime was visiting with anyone who happened by. His passion was working hard to support and protect his family. In his last days he spent a lot of time looking at pictures of grandkids. Preceding Terry in death were his daughter, Samantha; three sons, Joshua,Taran and Jonathan; parents, Earl and Veronica; sister, Cathy Dahl; and brother,Vince. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 52 years, Deb Rader of Shenandoah, IA; four sons, Shawn Rader of Tempe, AZ, Michael (Jessica) Rader of Cedar Rapids, IA, James (Mariah) Rader of Kearney, NE, and Matthew (Allie) Rader of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Athena, Desmond, Liam, Adalay and Phinehas; other relatives; and many friends.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Christ Point Baptist Church in Shenandoah, IA, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Noel Gandy officiating. Memorials may be directed to Christ Point Baptist Church. Professional services are under the direction of Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.
