Lucille was born October 12, 1951, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Ruth (Mead) and Emmet Davidshofer. A lifelong resident of Bayard, she graduated from Bayard High School in 1969. Luci met Jon Steffen in 1968 following his service in Vietnam.
The couple was married on March 30, 1969, at Merriman, Nebraska. The couple briefly lived in Scottsbluff before settling in Bayard. They became parents with the birth of their daughter Christine and later their son Robert.
Luci held many jobs in her lifetime, from waiting tables at the Corner Drive In during high school to driving beet trucks for area farmers.
She started a 30-year career with Western Sugar weighing trucks and doing payroll for the Bayard Factory. She later transferred to the Grower’s Service Center in Scottsbluff, retiring in 2017. Luci made many friends through her work, and many were considered family.
Luci was a talented seamstress, doing alterations, creating wedding gowns and cheerleading uniforms. She loved Mickey Mouse, had a large collection of clowns, was a true Husker fan and a Chiefs fan when Jon was watching them, enjoyed traveling with family and friends, and motorcycle adventures with Jon. The greatest love in Luci’s life was her family. She was so excited with the birth of her great-grandson, Easton, and with the upcoming birth of baby DesEnfants in April.
Luci was a member of the Bayard American Legion Auxiliary Unit #200.
Luci is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jon; children Christy (David) Schaff of Minatare and Rob of Bayard; grandchildren Jaclyn (Cole) DesEnfants of Prairie Center, WY and Travis (Callie and her son Jackson) Schaff of Oshkosh; great grandson and the light of her life Easton Eirich; brothers- and sisters-in-law Sandee Johnson of Ft.Wayne, IN, Pam (Joe) Hagar of Parkersburg, IA, Lee Ann Steffen of Westminster, CO, and Kathy (Tom) Stimmler of Berthoud, CO; numerous nieces and nephews.
Luci was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Emmet Davidshofer, parents- in-law Harry and Marge Steffen, sister Ilene Anson, brother-in-law Buck Johnson, and beloved dog, Jag.
