Janice Joan Stevens, 85

Janice Joan Stevens, 85, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at the Avantara MountainView nursing home in Rapid City, South Dakota, under the care of Stillwater Hospice. A visitation will be held Friday, January 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel in Bridgeport, NE. Burial and Funeral services will be held at later date in the spring of 2025 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota. Janice was born August 2, 1939, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and was the middle daughter of Daniel and Marie Martin. She attended school at District E-44 and C-14, graduating from Bridgeport High School. She began her employment for the State of Nebraska Department of Natural Resources in Bridgeport then worked for the Cheyenne School District and then The State of South Dakota before retiring in 1986.

She married Marvin Stevens on August 28, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bridgeport.They welcomed a daughter, Connie on August 9, 1962. Janice and her family moved to Casper, and then to Lovell, Riverton, and Cheyenne, Wyoming before moving Rapid City and then to Garden City, KS. She and Marvin retired to Tilford, SD, before they moved to Meza, AZ, in 1997. She and Marvin moved back to Bridgeport, NE, in October of 2006 to be close to family. After Marvin passed away in 2006, she moved back to Rapid City in 2008 to be closer to her daughter and her friends at Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City, where she was a member.

Janice was a strong, independent woman who always put her family first. Janice had an incredibly generous heart. Janice loved the springtime and was blessed with a green thumb, and everyone admired her variety of flowers and plants she had in her yard and home.

Janice is survived by her daughter Connie (Donnie Namanny), grandson Dustin (Lindsey) Namanny and great-granddaughter Jaedyn Namanny, sister; Mary Ann (Jack Wagoner) along with their children Wade Wagoner,Ty (Tammy Lutz) Wagoner, and Travis Wagoner, brother-in law; John Storey, along with his daughter Kelly (Mark) Namminga; brothers-in-law Dale Stevens, Norman (Delores) Stevens; sisters- in-law Marlys (Percy) Hansen, Sharon Kemplin, and Susan (Kenny) Wiegers, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Marie Martin (Becking); her husband, Marvin; sister, Roma Storey; brothers-in-law, Dean, David and Dennis.
