John was born in Alliance, NE, on August 8, 1932, to Catherine and Lewis Covalt of Angora. John had two siblings: sister Elaine (Charles) Reece and brother Lanny Covalt.

John graduated high school in Curtis, NE. He married Penny Konigsberger in 1954.

Together they raised three children, Corinne, Roger, and Sharon, near Broadwater, NE.

John and his wife, Edna have been living on the ranch for 25 years.

John loved the sandhills, ranch life, coffee, his dogs, and had a love of music.

He was blessed with a great musical talent and could play many instruments by ear.

Visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2025, at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel from 4-6 p.m. His funeral service will be held onTuesday, March 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater, NE.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Broadwater Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Covalt; children: Corinne (Bill) Spilker, Malcolm, NE, Roger Covalt, Lincoln, NE, and Sharon (Dan) Harshman, Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and his stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Lewis Covalt; sister Elaine Reece, brother Lanny Covalt, and son-in-law Bill Spilker.
