Herman Ernest Hall, 92

Herman Ernest Hall was born September 28, 1930, in Bridgeport, Nebraska. He died April 4, 2023, in Ontario, Oregon. Herman was the first of five children born to Herman and Inez (Mitchell) Hall. He grew up on the farm north of Bridgeport and attended West District 6 School. He attended Bridgeport High School, graduating in 1949.

Herman was inducted into the US Army in 1953. He received his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas before he was transported to Korea where he served as a forward observer/fire spotter and also in close combat. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Nebraska.

Herman tried many occupations in his early years before settling on diesel mechanics. He pursued that vocation for many years throughout many of the plains states from Montana to Arkansas.

In 2007 Herman reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Evaline Jane (Hedin). They were married in December of that year. In 2010 Evaline suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed and he became her patient and gentle caregiver until health issues made it necessary for them both to move to an assisted living facility.

Herman is survived by his brother George (Jeanette) Hall of Bridgeport; his sisters Nancy Clapp of Scottsbluff and Connie King of Gering; his sister-in-law Jeanette Hall of Bridgeport. Also surviving are his step-sons Michael (Connie), Phillip (Theresa), and Anthony (Karen) Carroll; step-daughters Mary (Paul) Parsons, Cynthia Carroll and Debby Blatchley, and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evaline (Eva Jane), brother Dale, brother-inlaw Harold Clapp, and nephew Michael Hall.

Herman was cremated in Oregon and there will be a graveside memorial service at Rose Hill Cemetery at Broadwater, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Raymond Cook of First Baptist Church in Bridgeport will preside with an honor guard provided by the Army National Guard with the American Legion Post 29 Sons of the Legion.
