Lois LaRaine (Carson) Hampton, 90

Lois LaRaine (Carson) Hampton, 90, of Bayard, Nebraska, passed away June 14, 2023. Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Ashby Congregational Church in Ashby, NE, with Pastor Roy Monahan officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at the Ashby Cemetery. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Lois’s honor be made in care of her family to be designated at a later time. Lois was born May 15, 1933, in Crawford, NE, to Gerald and Mabel (Siefers) Carson. Lois had a younger brother. She grew up around the Marsland, NE, area before her family relocated to Hyannis, NE.

Lois graduated from Hyannis High School in 1951. After high school she attended Chadron State College and obtained her teacher’s certificate. She taught school in the Sandhills for several years.

In 1957 she met the love of her life and on June 8, 1958, she and Kenneth Hampton were married.They worked on several ranches in the Sandhills throughout their married life. After retiring they moved to Ashby and eventually settled in Hyannis. Several years after Kenneth’s death she relocated to Bayard to be closer to family.

Kenneth and Lois were blessed with four children. Lois was a housewife and mother. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading, cooking, and a good game of cards, especially snowbird rummy. Lois especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She took great pride in teaching her grandkids and great-grandkids her tricks on bread and pie crust making.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Mabel; husband Kenneth Hampton; son Ralph Hampton; mother- and father-in-law Carlie and Cammie Hampton; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Sharon Carson; brothers- in-law Harvey, Bruce, and Chet Hampton; sister-in-law Delores Hampton.

Survivors include her children: Melvin Hampton of Bayard, Kay Freeburg of Bayard, and Gary (Kendra) Hampton of Scottsbluff; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Eric (Moraima) Freeburg, Lorelei, Skylar (Kate); Crystal (Nathan) Edmunds, Haley &Wyatt; Connie Kabugo, Sean and Jonathan; Chancy Hampton (Katja Baumann), Cora and Layla Hampton, and Kayla and Kimberly Weindl; Marika Hampton; Kayla (Dakota) Osmara, Luke and Jessa; Alyssa (Joe) McCance, Paisley; brother-in-law Richard (Hilda) Hampton; sister-in-law Esther Hampton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
