CSC hosts annual Rising Sophomore ceremony

CHADRON—Chadron State College students and employees gathered for the ninth annual Rising Sophomore awards ceremony Wednesday. Dr. Jim Powell,Vice President for Academic Affairs at Chadron State College, was the keynote speaker. He came to CSC in 2015 as the Dean for Assessment, Accreditation, Curriculum, and Education, Human Performance, Counseling, Psychology, and SocialWork. Powell, who became theVice President for Academic Affairs in 2020, is retiring at the end of June.

WESTCO is pleased to announce 18 area scholarship recipients for the 2023-24 WESTCO Scholarship Program, from 15 high schools within the WESTCO trade area. Recipients will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to further their education. The scholarship committee awarded these scholarships based on criteria, which included academic performance and a written essay.The WESTCO Scholarship Program is one of the many ways WESTCO supports our region’s youth and we wish these recipients a successful and bright future.

The Bridgeport Girl Scouts went on a field trip last Tuesday when they took a tour of the Bridgeport News-Blade and printing shop. Several girls and their parents took the opportunity to learn about the old-fashioned machines and see the original darkroom, where News-Blade staff developed film prior to the digital age.
