The Bridgeport speech team hosted a fun night for the public on Monday this week when they performed their individual speeches for Forensics Night.

The Bridgeport Girl Scouts went on a field trip last Tuesday when they took a tour of the Bridgeport News-Blade and printing shop. Several girls and their parents took the opportunity to learn about the old-fashioned machines and see the original darkroom, where News-Blade staff developed film prior to the digital age.

Barbara (Bohner) Seng died March 9, 2024, at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, Nebraska, at the age of 95. Funeral services will be held Thursday March 14, 2024, 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, with Pastor Jonathan Berosek officiating.

Lyle Roy Bell, 74, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Morrill County Community Hospital. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Bridgeport Church of Christ, with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Interment will follow at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport. Viewing will be on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. at Bridgman Funeral Home in Bridgeport. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials may be made in care of Lyle’s family to be designated at a later time.

Melvin Eugene Laeger, 96, of Bayard, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Skyview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bridgeport. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13, at Cornerstone Fellowship in Bayard with Pastor Larry Russel officiating. Burial followed at Bayard Cemetery with the rendering of Military Funeral Honors. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designations. Peggy M. Covalt, 90, of Broadwater, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at her home after a long battle with cancer and diabetes. Her Celebration of Life service will be held at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater at a later date.
