The Bridgeport Board of Education held their regular meeting on Monday, December 11th, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. All board members were present with the exception of Jeff Pohl.The board approved, by a vote of 5-0, the consent agenda which included the approval of minutes, financial reports, bills and payroll. Consideration to approve the collective bargaining agreement with the BEA for the 2024-2025 school year was tabled.

For the second year in a row, Bridgeport’s play production team took their one act all the way to the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk, Nebraska, for the state competition. Class C productions were Thursday last week and Bridgeport earned a fourth place finish, an improvement over a sixth place spot last year.

The Leyton Lady Warriors pummeled the competition last week when they faced off at home opening night against the Lady Longhorns of Kimball, winning 48-25. On Friday at Morrill, Leyton topped the Lady Lions 62-51.They are 2-0 on the season.

Ronald A. Garska, 82, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Bridgeport Church of Christ with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Ron’s honor be made in care of his family to be designated at a later time. Interment will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Madison Square Cemetery near Taylor, NE, close to the farm/ranch he grew up on and where many other family members are laid to rest. David Kent Neely, 73, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away onWednesday, November 22, 2023, at RegionalWest Medical Center in Scottsbluff, surrounded by his family that loved him. At his request, a private family service will be held, and cremation has taken place.

The Bridgeport girls and boys basketball teams earned wins during the opening weekend of the season.

Wrestling season is underway, and Bridgeport is off to a good start on the mats with meets competed this past week at Mullen, Southwest and Garden County.
